Brownrigg Agriculture's cropping business is based in the fertile Poukawa and Te Aute valleys of Hawke's Bay, on the East Coast of the North Island, New Zealand. However, BA's operations extend further north, to Wairoa, and across to Manawatu on the west coast of the island, utilising a mixture of leasehold and freehold land. BA grows a range of crops with a strong focus on innovation and quality to meet the ever-changing demands of domestic and global markets.
BA plants approximately 1,500ha of squash annually, for packing and exporting to the Japanese and Korean markets, supplying over 20,000 tonne each year. Visit our squash page for further information and contact detail.
Maize, barley and wheat are grown for feed grain supply to both merchants and direct to customers. We produce and supply quality maize grain as a high energy supplement, available direct to the farmer.
We also produce maize silage for supply to local livestock and dairy farmers.
BA plants around 125ha of onions, in conjunction with our joint venture partner Gerry Steenkamer. Our combined expertise and resources produce a superior product with a guarantee of quality from the field through to shipping. The onions are grown and packed to meet the specific demands of various markets, predominantly Europe and Japan.
We also grow process crops such as peas, sweetcorn, squash and onions for local supply, and hold close business arrangements with key processors, in the HB region, including Cedenco Foods, CSI Processors and McCain Foods.
